Allium Gladiator

A brilliant and reliable Allium to enhance any early summer garden, ‘Gladiator’ bears large balls of opulent purple blooms during June on strong stems up to 1.5m tall.
A prestigious Award of Garden Merit has been granted to this strong cultivar for its fabulous garden qualities and show-stopping looks. Towering in the border above most other plants, allium ‘Gladiator’ is a handsome, architectural bloom to bring structure and bold colour into the garden as spring merges into summer.
Excellent as a cut flower, both as a vivid fresh bloom in large floral displays, and dried as a textural and striking seedhead in autumn and winter arrangements.
Care Guide
Plant in rich, well-drained soil.
The larger bulbs should be planted 10cm (4”) deep and the smaller ones 5cm (2”) deep; they may be left undisturbed for many years.

Nigrum

A fine cultivar with semi-rounded heads of creamy-white flowers, Allium ‘Nigrum’ is commonly known as black or broadleaf garlic. Each star-like floret holds a shiny green ovary at its centre and a cluster of delicate stamens.
Excellent for dry and gravel gardens, pretty Allium ‘Nigrum’ thrives in full sun and well-drained, fertile soil. The bulbs also look wonderful grown in swathes to naturalise through grassy areas and are highly attractive to pollinators.
Native to the Middle East, this ornamental onion was traditionally used to aid the immune system.
Flowers during May and June, making Nigrum a wonderful bridging plant to bring interest during the seasonal crossover, sometimes called the ‘May gap’ in the gardening calendar.
