Zantedeschia Captain Violetta

Offering a tropical feel but with soft, muted colours, Zantedeschia ‘Captain Violetta’ exhibits delicate, Parma-violet spathes. The common name Calla Lily derives from the Greek kallos meaning ‘a thing of beauty’, and ‘Captain Violetta’ certainly lives up to this epithet.

The pretty flowers are set off against clumps of lush greenery with glossy, spearhead leaves freckled with white. Originating from swamplands in Africa, these thirsty plants thrive at a water’s edge where they can easily access the moisture they need.

Alternatively, Zantedeschia ‘Captain Violetta’ make excellent container plants when kept well-watered. Kept frost free over winter, these tender perennials will return enthusiastically year after year.

Care Guide

Plant rhizomes 8-10 cm deep in a container filled with good quality, free-draining multi-purpose compost.  Provide consistent watering, ensuring the soil stays moderately moist to maintain lush growth of your calla lilies.

Once flowers start to appear, feed plants every 3 weeks with high-potash liquid fertiliser.

Zantedeschia Aethiopica is the only fully hardy member of the family which may be grown outdoors all year round
