Agapanthus Africanus Blue

Globes of rich sky-blue flowers are borne from June to August on Agapanthus ‘Africanus Blue’, from a bed of strap-like foliage.
Native to South Africa, these members of the lily family are true gems for the summer garden - ideal for large pots and stunning in a mixed border as a gently swaying, bold swathe of colour. Agapanthus ‘Africanus Blue’ flowers are excellent for cutting, with long, strong stems which make them brilliant for arranging as accent flowers.
Although hardy in warmer, southerly regions and coastal areas, we recommend protecting your Agapanthus plants over winter by mulching the crowns, or by bringing containers undercover during the coldest months.
Care Guide
Elegant Agapanthus are best grown in large terracotta pots or containers, in a sunny spot. Fill containers with loam-based soil, enriched with organic matter. Plant rhizomes 20 cm deep and 15 cm apart, ensuring they rest 5 cm below the surface. Maintain soil moisture with regular watering, never allowing soil to become waterlogged. Sturdy stems of spectacular white or blue umbels will reach heights of 60-90 cm in late summer. Only re-pot if the plants are pot bound. Half-hardy Agapanthus require crown protection during winter with a thick layer of straw or mulch. In colder regions, containers should be brought undercover for the winter months.
